Biographical note

I am full Professor of Constitutional Law and AI regulation in Bocconi . I also teach the courses on GDPR, Digital Constitutionalism and AI regulation, Law of Public Policy, and I am the Director of the LLM in Law of Technology Automated Systems. I am also co-director of the research unit RULES, part of the research center Baffi and Presidente of the Centre on Digital Constitutionalism and Policy (DICOPO), Bruxelles. I have been appointed Honest Broker by the European Commission for the negotiation and drafting of the ‘European Union Code of practice on disinformation’(2022), still in force. I represented Italy for 5 years (2020-25) at the European Agency for Fundamental rights, where I have been also Executive Board Member. I am also Board Member of the Digital Library, Ministry of Culture; I am now Italian expert at the Steering Committee protection of Fundamental Rights (Counsel of Europe) and academic member of the EU plenary Assembly for the first general purpose AI Code of Practice. In the past I have been member to the Conseil of Europe Ad Hoc Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAHAI). At the moment I am Italian member of the OECD Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence and of the Global Alliance, World Economic Forum


About

A new monograph has been recently published: AI and Democracy (with Pietro Dunn), Bocconi, 2024. Recently I published another monograph Judicial Protection of Fundamental Rights in Internet. A Road Towards Digital Constitutionalism?, Hart Publishing, 2021; With Giovanni De Gregorio and Peggy Walke I am the co-editor of Oxford Handbook on Digital Constitutionalism, Oxford University Press, 2023. I also edited with G.E. Vigevani, M. Bassini, M. Cuniberti, C. Melzi d’Eril), Diritto dell'informazione e dei media, III edition, 2022; and with R. Adorno, M. Ienca, L. Liguori, E. Stefanini), The Cambridge Handbook of Life Sciences, Information Technology and Human Rights, Cambridge University Press, forthcoming 2022. In total I have more than 40 books (monographs and edited books) and more than 300 Articles and Chapters in Edited Books in the field of European Constitutional Law, Digital Constitutionalism, AI and protection of Fundamental Rights, Data protection, Cybersecurity.


Research interests

My research is focused on Constitutional Law and cross-cut the issues of the digital age, looking at the delicate relationship between public and private actors and how this impacts with the exercise and the protection of fundamental rights. My research has centered on

1) European and Comparative Constitutional Law;

2) Digital Constitutionalism;

3) Media Law;

4) AI, data protection and cybersecurity,

5) Life Science and digital Tecnhonology
