There Is a Limit to Everything, Even Counterterrorism
In the fight against international terrorism, the world's governments find themselves caught between the need for an effective counter strategy and the risk of overstepping the limit of the respect of human and civil rights. In this context, one of the more delicate questions is that of sate secrecy, introduced to safeguard national security, but which at times ends up covering up real abuses. These themes will be discussed in the workshop 'Secrecy, National Security, and Vindication of Constitutional Law' which will be held in Bocconi on December 1 and 2 in room 15 in Via Sarfatti 25.
The workshop is organized by Arianna Vedaschi, of Bocconi's Law Department in collaboration with the International Association of Constitutional Law (IACL) and its research group on Constitutional Responses to Terrorism, coordinated by David Cole. Among the 30 speakers who will participate in the various sessions over the two days are Stephen Sedley, former Lord Justice of the Court of Appeals for England and Wales and Lech Garlicki, of the European Court of Human Rights. The full program of the workshop is available in this page.
