The War on Terror Which Affects All of Us

, by Fabio Todesco
A series of seminars highlights the effects on Western societies and legal systems

The war on terror ignited by the 9/11 attacks is having relevant knock-on effects on Western societies and legal systems. Valori, principi e diritti fondamentali alla prova delle counterterrorism measures, a series of five seminars organized by Department of Law's Arianna Vedaschi tackles various aspects of these effects.

"The seminars are thought as informal roundtables aimed at triggering lively debates about the state of health of our democracies more than ten years after the 9/11 attacks", Vedaschi summarizes. Every seminar is introduced by two scholars' speeches.

States' self-defence in the age of terroristic threat; international humanitarian right and war on terror; contrast to terrorism funding and fundamental personal rights and war on terror are the topics of the upcoming seminars.

Annamaria Monti (Università Bocconi) and Stefano Pietropaoli (Università di Salerno) discussed about sovereignty principle vs. war on terror in the first seminar, on February 24.
